After working multiple positions within restaurants for nearly 15 years, I transitioned into the regulatory side of the food industry.

I’ve spent ten years as a regulator for the Florida Department of Agriculture in both retail and manufacturing.

Contracting with the FDA revealed the need for food businesses to get a clear direction on how to become permitted and safely produce their products for the general public.

I am a Preventative Controls Quality Individual (PCQI), HACCP Regulator certified for seafood and juice and AFDO HACCP certified.

Too many times I’ve witnessed disappointment in business owners with their consultant after receiving poor inspection results. Upon further conversation with owners I realized these consultants where just using cookie cutter plans they had previously written. Nothing was specific to the exact business they were consulting for. The consultants did not go to the facility. If they did, they only spent a few hours there. I saw a gap to fill helping food manufacturers and retailers comply with all government regulation and develop a Food Safety Plan that is tailored to the specific facilities needs. This was the motivating force for starting NexGen Food Safety.

On this path, I have also seen the need for new businesses to cut through the red tape and get their production started as many new owners have been given incorrect information and wasted hundreds if not thousands of dollars just trying to find the correct regulation for their product. When you start a food business regardless of the scope you are joining a community that I have been a part of on one side or the other for over 25 years. If I don’t have the answer, I know where to find it.
